Ice Storm 2009

3 snow days this week! A huge power outage, my state in a State of Emergency,. What a week!!We started to get snow on Tuesday morning. Which turned to ice that evening. It sleeted/freezing rain all night long and finally turned back to snow around dawn on Wednesday. Snow continued til 1pm or so that day. So 1in of snow, covered by abouit 2 inches of ice then topped with 2-3 inches of more snow. Not good!

There were tons of power lines and trees down. The trees were just no match for all the ice. They started snapping and falling on Tuesday night and continued all day Wednesday. Horrible sound to listen to!

We woke up Wednesday morning to no power! I was ticked! lol Chris and I had been reminding each other that we needed to buy a generator but we just kept putting it off. That is on a list of definite buys! Papaw Butch came over to check on us and we tried to see if any hotels were open. Of course they were all booked. Plus, no hotel was going to let me bring my 100lb dog with us and I wasn't leaving her behind! So Papaw Butch decided we would come stay at their house even though they didn't have power either. I was taken captive!

My car was stuck in the garage anyway so we just rode in Butch's truck since it was 4x4 and much needed! We stopped and grabbed dinner at KFC. Need a fast food economy boost? Cut the power to everyone's homes, that will do the trick. Every fast food joint that was open was packed to the gills!

We bunkered down in my parents basement, my mom has alot more blankets than I do and flashlights to boot! We spent most of Thursday going to various stores in search of a snow shovel and to keep warm. No snow shovels anywhere.

My neighbor/friend called me about 11:30 on Thursday night to tell me that her next door neighbor had called to let her know our power was back on!! She made me talk to her til she got to her house so she could make sure our power was on too. Thank God it was!! Butch said it was too late to pack it up and head over so we shivered out another night in my parents basement.

We got back home on Friday about 2pm to a warm house!!!! About 10minutes after we walked in the door, Butch got a call that their power would be back on within 30 minutes. Great, after we packed all that stuff and brought it to my house! Glad we hadn't unloaded it out of the truck yet.
